S.O.A.R
This weeks theme for the Simon Says Challenge is Spread Your Wings. My very first thought was the word S.O.A.R, the title of one of my favorite songs by the band Devour the Day. The meaning of the acronym is Suffer, Overcome, And Recover. So I flipped to a background page in my art journal and went to work. I love how it turned out, and I hope you all will too.

Duck, Duck, Goose!!
While I was out playing Pokemon Go this morning I stumbled upon this meeting of the minds. I love how both ducks and geese, male and female, can all hang out together like this. I don't know if they talk and laugh and have a good time, or if they are simply co-existing in the enviroment they both enjoy. This scene just made me stop and think of how happy the world would be if everyone could get along like these water fowl.

Be Square
I found a 3x3 inch box, spray painted one half black as the base. In the bottom of the box I laid in the stripes of colored card stock to make my rainbow. The quote is stamped on vellum and the flower brads just put through punched holes in the corner. I then glued it down using the space behind the brads so it didn't show oddly through the vellum. The small paper flower on the right I made by taking 1/2in square pieces of the same card stock I used for the rainbow, stacking them with glue dots in between for a little more depth, then slowly working in all the corners until it resembled a flower, craft wire made the stem. Small sticky gems were placed on the opposite side to make it seem more balanced.
This piece was done for: Simon Says Monday Challenge ~ Be Square
Doyle
My most recent completion in my art journal was this two page spread in honor of my hedgehog, Doyle, who passed in October. It took me a lot longer than I was planning to finish it, but I am very happy with the way that it turned out.
